Developer Stanislav Parhomovich has just released a new addon board for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive HDMI mod, called the Megaswitch HD. This board allows Sega Master System games to be outputted through the HDMI port as well, by using hardware emulation to digitally replicate the SMS’ video modes. If you already have a Megaswitch HD installed, this seems like a really cool upgrade! To order, make sure your Genesis revision is compatible and email megaswitch.contact@gmail.com. A quick note: While this is “hybrid emulation”, you’re still absolutely using “original hardware”; You’re running a real game (or ROM cart) through the original CPU, audio circuit and RAM, with only the video output being recreated via FPGA. This is as close to a “real” HDMI mod that you can get for Genesis / Megadrive consoles and is an awesome way to get really clean digital output, while retaining full analog video capabilities.
