Last month, we posted about a previously unreleased Mega Drive shooter that is being released only in Japan. Well, it looks like Retro-Bit was able to license that game for a worldwide release! This release will include an individually numbered slipcover, the game box that has a reversible inlay sleeve, a full-colored instruction manual, the Phantom Fighter cartridge for and an 8mm CD with the game’s soundtrack. The (about) $55 pre-orders will be open until mid-February and they’re scheduled to arrive at customers in May. More info after the links:

I was really curious how this release differed from the Japanese version and according to Retro-Bit’s FAQ, the main difference (other than it being in English) will be the slipcover and the reversible inlay artwork for the game case. Also, the game cartridge is compatible with both NTSC and PAL consoles.
Retro-Bit also states in their press kit that the PCB’s will be beveled and running at the proper voltage like their other recent Genesis / Mega Drive releases. I appreciated them including that information, both because I think it’s important that companies call out that information, but also because I wasn’t sure who was making these. While you should always double check the cart is beveled, Retro-bit has a great track record and it should be safe.
