Mortal Kombat Genesis & MKII 32x Editions Updated

Master Linkuei recently posted minor updates to his “Arcade Edition” romhacks for the Genesis / Mega Drive version of the original and the 32x version of Mortal Kombat II.   These romhacks aim to make these versions closer to the arcade versions, with a long list of changes and tweaks applied.  Download each from the links below for free, however if you’re a big fan of these, please consider supporting through the itch.io or Patreon links.  More info below:

One of the main reasons I wanted to post about these, was some people were having trouble getting them to work.  The most important thing to note, is you’ll need to use the correct ROM files; The ones I used were “Mortal Kombat II (32X) (W) (Jan 1995) [!].32x” and “Mortal Kombat (USA, Europe) (Rev A) (Beta)”; A quick search should find those pretty easily.  The just use your favorite IPS patching tool (I use FloatingIPS) and start playing!

Also , the MKII 32x Arcade Edition offers a version of the download with the arcade audio.  At the moment, this will only run with an actual 32x connected to a Genesis/Mega Drive, via a ROM Cart like the Mega Everdrive Pro or Mega SD that supports Sega CD emulation.  The MiSTer currently doesn’t support 32xCD, so you’ll want to just download the first (smaller) .ips patch without the audio pack.

If you’d like to see some of the MK1 differences, here’s a pretty good video that shows some side-by-side shots:
