This isn’t exactly news, since real Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware has been cheap for over a decade, but I just published a video outlining how to buy a real Neo Geo for $35/shipped. A lot of us arcade hobbyists in the know have been buying one-slot Neo Geo motherboards from China for as far back as I can remember, because they don’t cost an arm and a leg, and they’re authentic. Somehow the supply has held strong through the years and one-slots are still plentiful, cheap, and easy to get from eBay or Aliexpress.
The Neo Geo in general has the reputation of being an outrageously expensive platform to collect for, and rightly so, but that doesn’t apply to the elegant one-slot MV1B and MV1C motherboards. Combine one with the latest V2 version of the 161-in-1 Chinese multicart—which has extensive fixes and fully populated PCBs—and a supergun, and you have essentially built your own AES console.
I share my experience with the subject in my latest video, and have compiled a large list of Neo Geo MVS motherboard sellers.
