The company Arcooda has just announced they’ll soon be selling five new LCD displays that are all 4:3 aspect ratio and designed as direct replacements for dead arcade CRT’s. The sizes – which are meant to fit the most common arcade cab sizes – are: 20.1″, 26″, 27.5″, 29.3″, and 33″. Each can properly handle and sharp-scaler 15Khz inputs, as well as 24 & 31KHz as well and have a native resolution of 1600×1200 UXGA. These will include updated versions of their driver boards, which allow for just a few milliseconds of lag and sharp-scaling of the image. Arcooda is also looking into custom bezel options to make them a more seamless fit for the most common arcade platforms. No pricing has been released yet, but we’ll update everyone as soon as they’re available:

Obviously, we’d all prefer using a CRT for classic gaming and the next-best option would be an OLED setup with Blur Buster’s new rolling BFI built into a RT4K. But an OLED solution would be well over a grand and repairing an existing arcade CRT and chassis wouldn’t be far off in price. And even if you have the skills to refurbish the CRT yourself, that’s a LOT of time and effort. The fact is most people can’t afford either of those and don’t have the skills (or time) to do it themselves. So these are reasonable replacements designed for compatibility and functionality.
