21 years since its original release for the PS2, the weird Japanese summer vacation life-sim game, Boku no Natsuyasumi 2, is at long last fully translated into English. After 11 months of work and with over 5,000 lines of dialogue translated, the efforts of translation team Hilltop Works mean we lowly gaijin can finally live out our fantasies of being a young boy in the countryside of 1970s Japan. Though never officially released in the west, outside of a Doraemon-themed spin-off entry, the Boku no Natsuyasumi series has recently gained a bit of a cult-following in the west, mostly thanks to this six-hour-video on the series made by Tim Rogers. Although I’m excited to finally check out the game for myself, I can’t help but think of the “Huge Earthbound Fan Excited to Play It for the First Time” meme.
