Turbo Express / PC Engine GT Replacement Shell

Dennis van den Broek aka Pointer Function has just released the design files for a Turbo Express / PC Engine GT replacement shell.  This is meant as a drop-in replacement for either of the handheld consoles and each piece can be printed separately if you’re just looking to replace a damaged part.  You can use the files provided to print your own, or have one printed through PCBWay for a “factory” look.  More info after the links:

This version is an exact replica of the originals, with no changes added.  Dennis is also working on a version with a front plate designed to hold an RGBDRV modern screen, which will be available after more testing is completed.

Also, Cosam is currently working on a replacement (repro) board that can be used to repair an original. That means anyone with an NEC handheld damaged beyond repair from leaky caps can now rescue it through transplanting all the components. Dennis has been working with Zaxour to make a version with video output (Turbonanza!) built in, as well as an upgraded power rail and brightness wheel that works with the RGBDRV! Initial runs of this will be sold mostly assembled. This means you should also be able to pull the few required remaining components from any broken PC Engine or TurboGrafx-16!  We’ll follow-up on this when it’s closer to release.

Lastly, I just want to mention once again that the shell pictured here is a standard print.  If you’d like to see what can be done with a PCBWay print, check out Dennis’ social media pages and look for stuff like this:  https://bsky.app/profile/pointerfunction.bsky.social/post/3l76jfbqarx26
