Physical Releases of Retro Games At LRG E3 Presentation

Well, E3 came and went this year and while mostly being focused on new upcoming game like the new Halo or Battlefield, Limited Run Games also gave some old games the spotlight with new physical releases of retro game compilations, like a physical Castlevania Requiem and the Contra Anniversary Collection, and even a re-releases of Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Which are really cool and I’m happy to see these releases get printed on a disc.

But what’s really cool is that they’re releasing an English Turbografx-CD version of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Which is great to see because the game never got released in english on the Turbografx-16. And I’m sure that is going to be most people’s highlight of the show.

Going back to physical release for modern systems, Nightdive Studios’ Strife: Veteran Edition witch is a first person shooter made in the Doom engine is also getting a physical release, and I recommend checking it out if you’re a fan of 90s FPS games and want something different from that time period.

But my personal highlight from the show is a game that I would never have thought would see a re-release, a game so influential that angry people on the internet stopped talking about it 10 years ago. A game so great that fans also digged up an old PC port that had been lost to time. A game known as Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties.

Ok in all seriousness, Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties isn’t a great game (if you could even call it that), but it’s a game that I have wanted to play just to see how bad it really is ever since I saw the AVGN’s video on it all those years ago. And the fact that it’s getting re-released on modern platforms as well is insane.

Overall, the LRG3 show was one of the better E3 shows this year. I wouldn’t say it was the best, but it had some great games and I thought the presentation between the games was pretty entertaining.
