A new NES side-scroller was just released called Nova the Squirrel. I only had a short time to spend with it, but so far the game seems like a smooth, fast version of Super Mario Bros. The company who made it is “selling” the game as “pay what you want”, which includes $0. I’m a huge fan of things like this, as you get to try before you buy, but there’s still an easy way to support the developer should you like the game: https://novasquirrel.itch.io/nova-the-squirrel
The game is playable on real hardware via a Flash/ROM cart. Also, Indie Retro News did their own writeup on the game as well, that you might be interested in checking out.
