TMNT NES to SNES Port & Previous Conversion Updates

Developer Infidelity has just released an NES to SNES port of the infamous NES game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  This has all the usual enhancements, like less (or no) slowdown, less sprite flicker, etc.  There were also some enhancements, like pressing the X button during game play will swap out the available turtle and pressing L/R will swap color palettes, with 18 choices!  Infidelity also updated his previous SMB port to have color palette choices, and went back and updated all his previous ports to support 3rd party controllers.  There’s actually an interesting explanation as to why this was a problem, which you can read on social media if you’re interested.  More info after the links and a livestream of me trying it out is above:

This is a really interesting port, as the game had the potential to be amazing (at least at the time), but was plagued with crazy bugs.  I strongly recommend checking out the two videos Chris from Displaced Gamers did on the game, to truly understand the issues: Water Level / Input Lag.  Infidelity addressed the water level by rearranging the small spiky balls graphics, so the hitbox actually lines up properly.  There’s also some cool hidden features, which you can check out in the included readme file.

Also, if you’d like more details as to why these NES -> SNES ports are such a big deal, I already covered this in a previous post and discussed it during Weekly Roundup #361 at the 12min mark:  https://youtu.be/rviGb9gS_CA?t=721  I didn’t want to repeat everything here, so I thought it was just best to link to the other explanation.
