New Batch of SCART 621 Switches

Retro Gaming Cables has just opened pre-orders on a new batch of SCART 621 manual pushbutton switches.  As the name states, it’s got six SCART inputs and one SCART output, along with a 3.5mm audio jack output as well.  As this is a passive, manual switch, it should be compatible with all signal types: What you put in, comes out (more info below).  The price is about $75 at the current exchange rate and they’re due to ship this April.  At the moment, this is my first recommendation for people that need a quality SCART switch at an entry-level price:

20 Inch (0.5m) SCART Cable:  https://retrorgb.link/scart20in
60 Inch (1.5m) SCART Cable:  https://retrorgb.link/scart60in

First, to elaborate on my “what you put in comes out” comment:  Since this is a passive switch, there’s no powered circuitry to worry about, which means there’s no compatibility or voltage issues.  You also don’t get the sync-regeneration of something like a gscartsw, however since the signal isn’t being changed, there’s never a worry about passing composite video or YPbPr through, should you need to run those signals over SCART.

Next, it’s perfectly safe to use both the SCART port’s audio output and 3.5mm output at the same time.  While sure, there’s a chance of adding audio interference and dropping the volume, there’s no safety issues.  If you’d like proof, please check out the video I did that spent some time on this.

Also, this is essentially the same switch originally designed for the RetroTINK 5x, but with a standard socket-style output jack.  If you’d like to see the original switch in action, please check out the detailed post I did, as well as the livestream below – Basically, it’s excellent.  And once again, while it’s a different switch, the performance should be identical, as the only change is the output connector:
