Heber will be opening pre-orders on the MiSTer Multisystem 2 this Tuesday May 6th. The Multisystem2 is an FPGA based console that essentially integrates the DE-10 Nano and previous MiSTer Multisystem I/O board into one streamlined board. As it’s the same architecture as the DE-10, it should work identical to a DE-10-based MiSTer, with all the exact same software configuration and compatibility. There’s two versions available: One HDMI-only version that’s about $300 (including shipping) and another version that supports analog video for about $50 more; Power supplies are not included with either. Both versions are due to ship this August. More info after the link:

The launch video above provides almost all the info you’d need to know about the MMS2, but there’s a few points I’d like to reiterate. First and most importantly, this will perform exactly like current MiSTer setups. There’s integrated RAM and a bunch of convenience features added such as an NFC reader and a full-sized SD card with easy access in the front, however it’s the same exact FPGA. That means it won’t be able to run any cores that the current DE-10 can’t run, but there should also be no performance drop as well.
Also the Multisystem2 is compatible with all the existing SNAC modules from the original Multisystem, meaning you have access right away to adding controller adapters, as well as an MT32Pi. There’s also new accessories being created specifically for this one, including a stackable controller adapter and even an LCD screen kit!
I think that the look of the MMS2 gives off the vibes of a classic video game console, NOT a “science project” like the average stackable MiSTer build. And while this is 100% preference, I’d prefer this under my TV, as it looks like it belongs there. Overall, I think this is probably going to be my go-to for “all-in-one” MiSTer builds at the moment, but keep an eye out for some deep-dive reviews to see how it holds up!
