Black Jewel Reborn Now on Kickstarter

PSCD Games has just started their Kickstarter for Black Jewel Reborn, a brand new game for your favorite retro consoles–it will be released on Sega Genesis, NES, Game Boy, and Super Nintendo. Black Jewel Reborn is based on the PC game Black Jewel created by Oscar Celestini, which is styled after Commodore 64 games, and they are still involved in these ports as the art director. Black Jewel Reborn seems to follow the same core beats of the original but changes everything else from the gameplay mechanics, visuals, and pacing of the game. It is now a console action title (or a hack ‘n’ slash, as the Kickstarter description puts it) rather than the slower classic computer game it initially recreated. If you like classic console action titles filled with buff barbarians, skeleton warriors, dragons, and other monsters, this may be a game you need to check out.

The Kickstarter campaign has options for purchasing the ROM, cartridge, boxed copies, and bundles of them for all the platforms. You can also grab a demo of the Sega Genesis version, which spans one level and a boss fight. I tested the demo on my Mega Everdrive x7 and it ran very well so I don’t feel like at least pledging for the ROM version is much of a risk. The campaign will be running until August 12 2022 8:28 AM CDT and is looking to raise $40,132 USD.
