1995’s Wipeout has just received a stunning new fan port for the Sega Dreamcast. Based on the Wipeout Rewrite project, Github user jnmartin84 has brought the classic PlayStation racer to Sega’s final console. With silky-smooth performance and a boatload of optional enhancements, this new era-appropriate Dreamcast release feels like a peek into an alternate history where Sega fans got the last laugh after Wipeout‘s wonky Saturn port. The port’s most notable features include:
📈 Rock solid 60fps on real Dreamcast hardware.
🖼️ Optional texture filtering.
🔍 Draw distance settings.
✏️ Choice between PS1-style gouraud + flat shading or PC-style gouraud-only shading.
🎮 Fully remappable DC controls and VMU saving.

At a very modest 172mb, this new port will fit nicely onto any good re-writable CD and has been confirmed to play nicely with Dreamcast emulators like Flycast or Redream. Although, if PC is your platform of choice, I’d suggest Wipeout: Phantom Edition instead, a PC-source port that features a bit more bells and whistles like native widescreen and adjustable collision detection.
