A company called Retro Games is releasing a HDMI/USB plug and play version of the Commodore 64 (C64). Much in similarity to the NES and SNES Classics as well as the upcoming Sega Mega Drive/Genesis classics. This new C64 aims to be a modernized plug and play solution which will be available December 2019. Giving users the ability to once again enjoy the C64 but on their modern TV or displays via HDMI.
The C64 will come bundled with, you guess it. 64 games! In addition to this a USB Joystick will be included with the fully working keyboard with the micro computer. C64 and VIC 20 modes are available as well as a simplified “carousel” mode to navigate your games in an easy to use GUI (Graphic User Interface). Options to work in BASIC programming language are still there and the product page states you will be able to load your own programs as well via a USB stick.
Hopefully the emulation will be good enough for an enjoyable experience on this device, but if anything. This might be another great toy to have around with the other Mini’s on display. If this is successful perhaps we could see the likes of an Amiga 500 “Mini” or MSX2 “Mini” or even better. A Sharp X68000 “Mini”???
