Sega Genesis HDMI Mod Installation Video

Tito from Macho Nacho Productions just posted a video showing a detailed installation of the MegaSwitch HD – A “hybrid emulation” HDMI kit for (most) model 1 Sega Genesis / Mega Drive consoles.  This kit uses an FPGA to emulate the Genesis’ video chip, while still utilizing all other original chips on the console.  This is a zero lag device and a really fun addition for people who want to use their original Genesis on modern TV’s.  This video focuses on the main installation, as well as the audio board, but expect a follow-up video showing the SMS module installation on Tito’s second channel.  More info below the links:

While Tito’s video was great, I definitely preferred using different points to pull audio – The same ones I used in the original stereo audio guide here:  https://www.retrorgb.com/genesisaudiomod.html  Using these points gets you high quality audio that’s not affected by the headphone volume slider.  I showed it in my (long and boring) livestream; Check it out below if you’re interested.

Just a few other notes:  As Tito mentioned, the “Single Buffer” video mode allows for seamless switching of resolutions, but if you’re not playing a 240p/480i game (Like Sonic 2, 2-player mode) then it’s best to try the Zero Delay mode, which has zero latency – I also demo’d this in the livestream.  And as always, I genuinely think playing in 1080p5x mode is the best for almost all games of this era, as you get the most use of your flat-panel screen, without any “stretching” of the image.  Either way, if you’re using the MegaSwitch HD’s scanlines, you’ll want to set it to an even scaling number of either 4x or 5x, otherwise the lines will be uneven, like Tito showed.
