Developer Infidelity has just released a new version of his NES to SNES conversion of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out. This isn’t a tweak of the previous 2024 release, but a complete ground-up conversion, started from scratch. The main focus of the original was the technical achievement of porting the NES MMC2 mapper, but this version focuses on the game itself. It’s got all the advantages of a NES to SNES conversion, along with rumble support via Randy Linden’s code and MSU-1 audio. One of the MSU tracks is a true analog rip of the original from FirebrandX, that allows a clean version of the NES soundtrack to be played, without dropping music when the NES’ sound chips are needed for effects. This and all previous releases are available in the Archive link:

If you’d like more info on this port, check out the readme in the download, as well as a recent social media post from the dev. Also, if you’d like more details as to why these NES -> SNES ports are such a big deal, I already covered this in a previous post and discussed it during Weekly Roundup #361 at the 12min mark: https://youtu.be/rviGb9gS_CA?t=721 I didn’t want to repeat everything here, so I thought it was just best to link to the other explanation.
