Project Neon, the shoot ’em up for the Neo Geo, has it’s second batch of AES and MVS cartridges coming up this week for preorder.
Fullset, the developer of Project Neon, sent out an email earlier today saying that they have a second restock coming up this week with shipments in February.:
We were able to prepare a few more copies for Batch #2 of Project Neon for Neo Geo MVS & AES, which will start shipping in February.
Orders will reopen for a limited time at the end of this upcoming week:
– Friday, 9:00 AM AEDT (Sydney, Australia)
– Thursday, 3:00 PM EST (New York, United States)
– Thursday, 11:00 PM CEST (Berlin, Germany)
They also report an upcoming v1.1 patch for Project Neon:
Changes included in v1.1:
– Added new, subtle propulsion flames to player ship when accelerating/decelerating
– Increased volume of some SFX, including explosions
– Increased combo timeout from 60 to 90 frames (TBC)
– Increased power text timeout from 60 to 120 frames
– Improved visibility of segment dividers in stage-boss power bars
– Fixed SFX not playing when attract mode sound is disabled on either system or game level
– Fixed “x” of font not being very readable in TATE mode
– Fixed accidentally flipped combo timer in YOKO mode… We’re already working on more, bigger updates for v1.2 🙂
Project Neon cartridges have built in Wifi specifically to allow the end user to install updates to game code when the developer releases them. I have the MVS version of Project Neon and I’m already on the list to receive the update, so I’ll report back how that goes later on.
Also, they report they have already begun work on a new multiplayer Neo Geo game:
Over the past few months, no topic has come up more often than what’s next. So we’re excited to share that work has started on our next title for Neo Geo MVS & AES. Can you guess the type of game?
– Working title: “Overserved!”
– Offline and online multiplayer game for up to 8 players, with up to 4 able to play locally on one system.
– Not a cooking simulator 😉
Since they mention online, I’m going to guess that the cartridge’s wifi (which I’m assuming they are using a similar hardware to Project Neon) will allow for this multiplayer connectivity. That’s a really neat idea and hopefully we hear more about this soon along with how it’s local 4 player support will work.
