Last week I got a chance to talk to N64 hardware hacker Konrad Beckmann. Konrad got attention last summer for his work on the “PicoCart64”, which was a very low cot N64 flash cart made mostly from a Raspberry Pi Pico.
Konrad has since gone back to finish a previous project working on HDMI digital video also using not much more than a Pi Pico.
While we have high quality solutions to these problems already, Konrad is all about hacking the N64 with the cheapest parts possible. If the Everdrive is the Ferrari of N64 flash carts, Konrad is out there giving you a how-to guide to build a Toyota. Both solutions are needed and useful in our community. He focuses on low cost solutions which often become a component in the projects from other hackers.
