At last, the Game Boy’s excellent Mega Man World V has been blessed with a full colorization patch, transforming this often-overlooked entry into an experience that stands tall among the very best Game Boy Color conversions. While Game Boy Color enhancement projects can be fairly hit or miss, this one is the real deal, with pixel artist Kensu Williams breathing new life into these old sprites with an obvious appreciation for color theory and the distinct look of Mega Man’s NES titles.
And if a fresh coat of paint still isn’t enough for you, coder Marc Max has also implemented an NES-style pause screen and removed all instances of framerate slowdown. Merry Christmas, Mega Man fans!

With the colorization of Mega Man V now complete, Mega Man nerds are free to enjoy every single one of the Blue Bomber’s Game Boy outings in glorious, 15-bit RGB color. While the pea-soup shades of the original visuals certainly have their charm, I’m sure they’ve also played a significant part in these portable entries historically being seen as lesser titles compared to the NES entries. Hopefully, these color enhancements will shine a new light on this overlooked sub-series and help spread the good word of Mega Man World IV and V, specifically.
