Arthrimus, creator of the PSX to DB15 adapter circuit used in the Behar Bros’ Hayabusa supergun, has just released a new firmware that should lower the controller latency to 0-16ms*. The original firmware that the Behar Bros shipped with the Hayabusa added up to two frames of lag, averaging out to about 26ms just from the controller inputs. The Behar Bros have offered to update existing units, but you can also just update it yourself, using about $2 worth of programming tools. More info below the links:

*A note: I often talk about how “variable latency” is a bad thing, however when you’re talking sub-frame latency it’s almost never an issue. I’m not sure I’d call this “pretty much zero”, but it’s close.
Other than the controller lag, the Hayabusa performed pretty well and it seemed about as safe as any supergun could be. Due to how both arcade boards and superguns work, I don’t think it’s possible to have a “perfectly safe” supergun, but as long as you’re careful, the Hayabusa will be fine. If you’d like some peace of mind, a $30 scope is all you need to confirm – Check out this page and video for more info: https://www.retrorgb.com/30-oscilloscope-for-retro-and-arcade-gamers.html
The Hayabusa’s $90 price point is very good, but with the only controller option being PS1/PS2 controllers, it’s not for everyone. I’d have much preferred a DB15 input like all other superguns (including their discontinued Shogun), but if your goal was to play all your arcade games with PlayStation controllers, than this is a good pick.
While the Home Arcade System supergun is more expensive at $145, you get zero latency DB15 controller ports, rapid fire and a lot more. That’s currently my go-to choice of superguns, but at $55 more, the Hayabusa might be a better fit for most people’s budgets. I just wish the Behar Bros still sold their Shogun supergun, as it’s essentially the same thing, but with DB15 controller ports. Oh well…
