Markus has just posted new firmware for the OSSC Pro that adds Lumacode support for the Atari GTIA & VCS, higher BFI multiples and support for 24KHz HDMI sources. Lumacode support is excellent and means with a fairly easy mod, you can use the OSSC Pro to get digital video from your Atari console. Supporting 24Hz inputs also means you can watch movies in a proper cadence, on both modern and retro displays. And higher BFI multiples allow for more control over black frame insertion strobing. If any of these features interest you, here’s the link:

As you might imagine, I’m really excited to try the 24p support and utilize the Extra AV-Out module to send blu-ray’s to PC CRT monitors in their proper cadence. While that’s obviously a niche within a nice, once you try it, you might not ever watch older TV shows the same way again! In fact, I’m also looking forward to finally trying the OSSC Pro as a dedicated downscaler, as Marco’s latest video proved it’s absolutely top-tier for gaming.
Here’s all the changes and additions with v0.79:
- support for 24Hz HDMI sources added
- support for higher framelock/BFI multipliers added
- “720p max” EDID preset added
- Full TX setup compatibility option added
- various robustness and timing improvements
- Lumacode support for Atari GTIA and Atari VCS added
Please note that the following features have had so many additions added, that after applying this firmware, changes saved using previous firmware versions are not loaded from existing profiles. If you don’t need any of the new features and don’t want to update your profiles with changes to match the new firmware, maybe wait for the next one?
- HDMI RX & TX options (due to added EDID and Full TX setup option)
- Lumacode (due to added new presets)
- Framelock (due to separation of FL multiplier)
- BFI (due to updated functionality)
