Retro Game Restore has just sent me production samples of their Super Nintendo / Super Famicom transparent controller shells. The quality is exactly what you’d expect from RGR and the colors seem to match the corresponding case colors perfectly. You’ll need to use the *buttons, membranes and screws from your original controller though and as with all brand new plastics, it’s pretty tight the first time you screw it together; You might want to pre-tap them with a thin drill bit first. Orders direct from RGR have started shipping and local resellers should be getting theirs any day now. Check out a short video above to see how they look, with more info below the links:

*As a note, all pre-orders placed before last August will ship with a clear d-pad, as well as clear convex (SFC-style) buttons. Orders placed now will only come with the controller shell and matching trigger buttons. Also, as shown in the video, RGR sent me all the current pre-order colors (Clear, Smoke and Atomic Purple), as well as a red version. If enough of the main three are sold, they’ll consider producing the red one as well at a later date.
One other thing to note, is these should be compatible with all original SNES / SFC controllers, but 3rd part may be hit-or-miss; I tried a “RetroFlag” USB controller and it almost fit, but would require some modification to the controller PCB or shell. I’d personally rather modify the cheap 3rd party controller than this beautiful controller shell, but that’s up to you.
…oh and if you’re buying these to refurbish old SNES controllers, maybe consider a new braided controller cable from J&T Studios as well? I imagine anyone with really short SFC controller cables would appreciate the “normal” length with a pretty cool
