Using JBC Soldering Cartridges On A Budget

After watching Dan Kunz (citrus3000psi) do instructional videos for the DCHDMI and Wii Dual, I developed an interest in the JBC soldering equipment he was using, because it was so different than other equipment I’ve seen.  JBC makes some really nice stuff, but it’s really expensive so I decided to see if I could try it out without paying the $500 entry fee.

The open-source solution I found worked out pretty well and cost just about half of the official solution.  Basically, you buy (or make) the open-source controller, then match it to a PSU, handle and tips:

At least one of these (whichever seems best for your use case): https://www.flexibleassembly.com/products?search=c245
