Intellivision has recently revealed a new trailer for their upcoming Amico system at Gamescom 2019 in Germany.
The “Amico”, announced over a year ago and set for an October 2020 release, is a family-friendly gaming system that is set on bringing back casual gaming by reviving old IPs from the 80s and 90s.
In this trailer, Tommy Tallarico, video game music composer (mostly famous for working on Virgin Interactive titles back in the early-mid 90s) and now head of Intellivision is mainly gushing about local multiplayer and the overall fun factor that surrounds it, panning along the way the complexity of modern gaming in general.
90s-style video game commercials slogans are thrown in between Tallarico’s segments leading to the video’s most anticipated part: game previews.
I could only recognize/identify a few titles like Moon Patrol, Night Stalker, Shark! Shark!, Missile Command, Asteroids and Sega’s Ecco the Dolphin. All of the previously mentioned and remaining games are very briefly (during a 20-second segment) showcased in the trailer and it looks like they’ve received a graphical overhaul that looks pretty decent in more that one case.

With games like Earthworm Jim and Ecco the Dolphin coming on the Amico, I seriously hope that the system will eventually come out (unlike some console named after a reptile) and find some kind of success, at least, among us retro enthusiasts. I’m keeping my expectations low for now.
