Ganbare Goemon: Ōedo Daikaiten Receives Full English Translation

The Japan exclusive action platformer, Ganbare Goemon: Ōedo Daikaiten, has just recieved an excellent fan translation courtesy of Romhacking.net member acediez. Released in 2001 for the PlayStation, Ōedo Daikaiten draws heavily from the series’ side-scrolling SNES titles and should feel right at home for anyone who played The Legend of the Mystical Ninja back in the day.

English-speaking Goemon fans sure owe a lot to the fan-translation community. With its whimsical Feudal Japan setting and references to both historical folklore and modern Otaku media, the Goemon franchise was understandably considered too niche for the west back in its heyday. As such, only a few games from the massive, multi-decade Goemon back catalog managed to slip through the cracks and make their way to our shores.

In a world without romhackers and translators, this situation could have been a real stinker. However, thanks to the wonderful efforts of these groups, a good chunk of the Goemon onion has been peeled away, layer by layer, year after year, bringing these games to our consoles and Goemon into our hearts.
