MiSTer FPGA News – MiSTer Pi Revision, Irem M90, Konami BUbble System, WWF Super Stars & More

CEC Enabler

Greg from Laserbear showed off a prototype version of the CEC Enabler. A device that helps you control your MiSTer FPGA via HDMI CEC. The device is very small, so it wont be intrusive if you want to keep a clean setup.

Also, if you are a RetroTink 4K owner, Greg is working on supporting the scaler. If he can get the RP2040 to talk to the Tink over USB, then it’s a simple change to the design to add an input USB port.

MiSTer Pi Built-in RAM

A new revision of RetroMake’s MiSTer Pi has been announced. This revision will include built-in SDRAM, like the QMTech board. This new revision will start shipping with batch 3. The non-SDRAM version will still be sold for $99. No pricing on the new revision was given.

QMTech Case

Retrofrog is going to provide another option for QMTech MiSTerFPGA owners. An image and video was posted of this case, but it’s still in development. As it further develops we will get more information.

USB-C To 5v Adapter

Retro Frog is working on a USB-C to 5v adapter for MiSTer FPGA setups. If you’re someone who wants all of thier devices to be powered via USB-C, then this is the adapter for you. It also comes with a power switch so you don’t have to un-plug your MiSTer setup to turn it off.

So far the device has been in testing for months, and is compatible with the original DE1-Nano and QMTech FPGA boards. It is said that with a small adapter it can also work with MiSTer Pi.

IREM M90

wickerwaka officially released the Irem M90 core. It currently supports Bomber Man and Bomber Man World, but other hardware variants will be added soon to support more games. Those possible games are:

Hasamu
Match It
Quiz F1 1.2 Finish
Risky Challenge

Konami Bubble System Core

Developer Raki has released a beta core for the arcade Konami Bubble System. During this beta phase the core is available only to Patreon subscribers.

WWF Super Stars

Jotego recently released the WWF Super Stars core to the public. Everyone can now download it by running update_all.

1FPGA Update

The developer of 1FPGA has posted a video going through the setup process. Previously called GoLEmFGPA, 1FPGA is an alternate MiSTer firmware that’s concentrating more on ease of use.

Some cool features I like about the firmware are:

  • Multi-user support: You can create accounts for different users. Each user will have their own saves, save states, favorites, game list and more.
  • There are sorting options that allow you to sort games by last played. That’s super helpful for quickly getting to you most recently played games.
  • There are options to launch games through keyboard shortcuts. For example you can set the system to launch Sonic the Hedgehog by assigning a custom keyboard hotkey, like CTRL+1. So everytime you hit CTRL+1 on your keyboard, Sonic the Hedgehog will launch.
