As gaming media inevitably progresses and moves forward, we often forget our origins and how gaming reached its current point and I feel one of those casualties was the Wizardry series. Launched in the same year as Ultima, the Wizardry games co-created the RPG videogame genre as we know it today, without it, today we wouldn’t have Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy or Persona.
This series even managed to be important outside of gaming, shaping how the Japanese view western fantasy in general. Because of this, St1ka (that’s me) created a documentary video focusing on the first 4 games in the series, its impact in western gaming, Japanese gaming, anime, and so much more.
It’s a comprehensive video and hopefully it’ll introduce new gamers to this often forgotten series.
